Lovecraft Library
The bookshelves of the damned...
...or some such other suitably sinister nonsense. I'm trying to collect a comprehensive catalogue of the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890 - 1937) here. Not that I'm a Mythos-Mentalist or avid reader of horror fiction - in fact I believe a lot of horror fiction to be incredibly badly written by and large. Or maybe I'm just in denial there and maybe this is actually the closet Goth in me screaming to be outed. God, I hope not - I'd have no alternative but to do myself in. But then, that's exactly what a Goth would say, isn't it? Oh, crap....

Historically, there have been a few similar resources on the Web, but for some reason they often keep disappearing without trace. So I thought I'd build up the catalogue myself as a stable resource instead. His stories were pretty ground-breaking stuff for their time and as it's mostly public domain material now it probably deserves to be freely available. Like most of the rest of this site, this is work in progress and finding/converting/scanning some of the stories might be tricky, but I expect to be adding stuff fairly quickly. I'll start with some of his more famous ones...
The Stories
The Statement of Randolph Carter
The Rats in the Walls (Sorry - removed pending further Copyright research)
Through the Gates of the Silver Key
The Strange High House in the Mist
The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath
The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
Once I've got the stories up, I'll begin converting them to PDFs for simplicity of download and maybe even put them in some sort of order if I can be bothered. But in the meantime if anyone has a burning desire for a particular work to be posted, drop me a line through Matneee@TMoCT.co.uk and I'll do my best to get it on the page as soon as is humanly possible. Enjoy!
Buy Cthulhu Stuff
Yes, almost inevitably there had to be some sort of commerciality on the site somewhere. As it happens, I tout a range of Miskatonic University stuff through CafePress.com. Clearly these are the best clothes in the world ever in terms of style, design and quality, but then I would say that, wouldn't I...
Actually, they're pretty good to be honest. The hoodies, coasters & ash Grey T-Shirts in particular are ace and they go a little way toward the cost of keeping this site running...
I've checked the legal aspects involved in hosting the above H.P Lovecraft works and to the best of my knowledge all works linked to on this page are public domain. It would seem that while several copyrights exist for anthologies of Lovecraft stories, the stories themselves are mostly uncopyrighted. If it transpires that I am infringing on anyone's copyrights, I shall be more than happy to remove the offending works upon reasonable request. This does not constitute legal advice for anyone so don't quote me on that in court, or else a big tentacle-faced bastard will come round and rip your arms off during the night. |
